Previously in the past the 3 door models have in a way found themselves in the market for the under 25 single demographic of buyer and the 3 door Vitara has defiantly fallen into this for many yearsVitara arrived in 1988.
But lets go way back into the ninety (yes last century) when 4x4 vehicles and SUV's were a whole new world .
The Suzuki Vitara JX soft top was Suzuki's rock. Sales were good in new and used markets.
Well today's market is like that again with the added burden on high fuel prices. This could be a small win for Suzuki with the sales forecast looking good for the Vitara of 2009/ 2010
2009 /2010 Vitara is economical and uncluttered
The 2.4 litre 4 cyl vvt engine is economical and forced added economy of only having a 5 speed gear box. Power is good at 122 kw @ 6000 rpm with the torque 225 Nm @ 4000 rpm.. Fuel economy is about 9 litres to the 100 kms.
For off the road there is a four high lock with centre differential locked, then four low range lock for the tough stuff.. Great we don't talk much about this sort of feature anymore. The Vitara clearance is 200mm.
To summarise would be similar to the review of the first Suzuki Vitara in 1988. Around town it is nimble and capable. Interior is small with the extra fact the rear seats fold up and the spare is on the outside. Off road ok light (1444kg) and agile. The open road well...I can just say it is a short wheel base and they can be slightly uncomfortable at times.
Pricewise is superb ( $25000) a definite consideration maybe before some of the Korean makes although features will be sparse.
For over 20 years years now I have stood by this statement and I have yet to have anyone give me a valid argument:
" If you are going to buy cheap buy a Suzuki"
Well done again on the 3 door Vitara.
