Hummer H3 in AustraliaH3 Now Here Check out 2009 H4
General Motors Australia release of the H3 should be a positive move into the niche market of exclusive4x4 vehicles. Hummers H3 the baby of the fleet should prove a positive addition to the Australian market. Sales will not be expected to be earth shattering but it will be hoped to be consistent enough to keep supply of this vehicle into Australia for years to come. Australian off road conditions should be easy work for this SUV and hopefully it will prove itself a capable 4X4 vehicle. Engine: 3.71 Vortec DOHC 20-valve 5 cyl Power: 180 kw @ 5600 rpm Torque: 328nm @ 4600 rpm Bore X Stroke (mm) 3.77 x 4.01 Economy: 15.2 L/100km combined and tested Fuel: 87 litre ULP 13.7l/100kms Kerb weight: 2132 kg Dimensions (mm) 4742 (L) 1893 (H) 2841 ( wheelbase) 231 (Clearance) Brakes: Discs, ABS, traction and stability control Transmission: 4-speed auto or 5 spd manual. Electronic transfer Suspension: Independent with torsion bars (front) multi leaf springs (rear) Tyres 265/75 R16 Towing 1360 (braked 750 kg unbraked Turning circle 11.3 metres Co2 emissions 327g every km The Hummers are arriving from the Port Elizabeth plant in South Africa, first off the line the H3 petrol model followed later in the year with the diesel. For the curious the H3 was only assembled in the USA in Sheveport Louisiana. This vehicle in the US has carved its way into the market and sales are very encouraging since its release there in May 2005. In Australia the eastern sea board seems to be covered for distribution of the hummer H3. If Australia follows the US path of sales for the hummer H3 expected a rise in sales to the tune of 50+% per year as these rises are expected in the US and Europe . The Australian market though will show a obvious slant towards diesel and fuel economy which will be a major factor to the Australian buyer. Secondly price, in the US this H3 is priced from $29000 USD. I am certain as per most vehicles of this kind hitting the Australian market it will be expensive in comparison. Its nice to drive around and now see the odd H3 Hummer some of the colours are exquisite Specifications and options available . Press release for Australia Feb 4 2007 Like the Jeep brand Hummer is iconic and will appeal to the want to have more
so, from mum and dad motorist wanting to do the odd bit of off road work. Mum may still have a slant to vehicles like the Honda CRV or Toyota Rav 4
in preference. I always ask the questions why don't they launch the diesel with the petrol? The question will remain. My concern here is that the fuel economy figures for the petrol model may be the big negative in all this and GM are hoping to pick up some initial sales and like the BMW 4X4 experience will the diesels become a rare commodity in the market with long waits for stock? Either way its good to see the car manufacturer experimenting into new realms. I would never wish to discourage that. Some are saying a great package,*"steering is vague ,rear seat uncomfortable and interior claustrophobic",* (Review Courier Mail Qld 12/1/08 Mark Hinchcliffe) but at 2.2 tonne its not meant to be a F1 car. Welcome to Australia Hummer.! 2010 and the Hummer H2 will be offered with a Flex fuel engine capable of running on 85% ethanol. this initiative by GM is for the overall plan of 3 million type engines on the roads in 2012. It seems GM are hanging their hat on ethanol as their winner in the greener alternative fuel markets that we see developing now. What about the Toyota cruiser Competition? or not!
