VW Passat Alltrack, is a city, country type of multi
purpose vehicle, not necessarily a direct off roader but a week end
go on to the dirt type of vehicle.
Now this Alltrack is not a new concept in fact Subaru have been at it
for years with the Outback, Volvo too with the XC-70.
This vehicle offers up a niche market to those not necessarily using a
soft road style but know that it can do it when called upon.
Subaru hit the semi country market as will this VW. For dirt road
situations this is one of the best you will get.
Overseas models will have model choices in front and all wheel drive but
it will be Australia that will take on the 4x4 version.
Engine wise is the 125 Kw 4 cylinder turbo diesel.
This is 2012 release first sighted at the LA motor show late 2011..
Pricing is up a little to about $58,000, it should go head to head
with Volvo buyers although I have actually never met one.
The name Passat too generation X and below is fine but the old
timers would remember that rusty little car usually ducoed in yellow
running around the streets with a elderly driver wearing a tweed cap and
leather patches on there cardigans but this vehicle is a whole new
story.
What I would do, have a look and a good drive then check out the Subaru,
compare price advantage and decide.
For vehicles fitted with DSG dual-clutch transmission,
the shift pattern is altered when off-road mode is engaged, with higher
shift points to give more power,
flatter accelerator pedal movement and no automatic up-shifting in
manual mode.
