The 4 wheel drive has and in some cases rightly so been seen
as a danger for rear vision accidents, Usually in schools drop offs,
shopping centres and the home driveway.
Tragic accidents occur
usually involving children. In Queensland alone in the last 10 years
there has been about 100 accident a year where children have been
admitted to hospital and sadly there has been 19 deaths in the last 5
years.
Its taken some time but manufacturers of all vehicles now have as
standard or soon to have rear view cameras.
Experiencing recently
the 2010 Camry Hi brid and the camera just gave a great view. But

NRMA recently tested many vehicles passenger and 4WD to give their star

The best were rated at 5 stars the worst zero.
The winners in the reversing Visibility Test
The Holden Commodore wagon, Honda legend, Mercedes Benz E class, Subaru
Liberty and Mitsubishi ASX rated the best in cars. The 4X4
vehicles went to
Kia Sorento,
Toyota Kluger
BMW X5
Winner Kia Sorento
The Loosers
Ford Falcon sedan, Holden Commodore Sedan, Epica, Cruze,
Honda Accord, Honda Civic, Mazda 6, Mazda 2, Mercedes Benz C
class, Mitsubishi Lancer, Proton Persona and more..
But the 4X4 models left me gasping. Some of these where the most
popular and most sought after 4WD's in the market today.
The 0 rating 4x4's
Hyundai ix 35
Toyota Prado
Toyota Rav 4
In fact the zero list had 27 cars and only 3 4x4 vehicles.
It doesn't make a careless driver any more caring but in a split
second it may be the difference between avoiding a tragic accident
